The Ethiopian government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has launched the PRIME-1 project to address critical challenges within the country’s power sector. This initiative aims to promote gender equality, improve environmental, social, health, and safety standards, strengthen power infrastructure, enhance utility performance, and create a reliable power supply. By reducing risks and encouraging private investment, the project seeks to drive sustainable growth and development within the sector.
As part of the PRIME-1 project, ACE has been contracted by Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) to provide critical expertise in several key areas. These include the Environmental & Social (E&S) and Health and Safety Capacity Assessment, as well as the Institutional Gender Analysis and Gender Work Program Design.
The capacity assessments will evaluate the current practices and capabilities related to environmental, social, and health and safety standards within the institution. This will help identify areas where improvements can be made to strengthen the organization’s E&S and safety framework. Additionally, the gender analysis will assess the existing gender equality practices within the institution and pinpoint opportunities to enhance gender inclusivity.
To ensure that gender considerations are embedded throughout the project, ACE will also design a comprehensive gender work program at both the corporate and project levels. This program will guide the integration of gender-responsive actions into all aspects of the project, ensuring that the benefits of the PRIME-1 initiative are inclusive and equitable.
Through these efforts, the PRIME-1 project will not only contribute to the development of a more robust and reliable power sector in Ethiopia but will also promote sustainable practices, gender equality, and social responsibility within the energy infrastructure.
